Margaret Topkin

Obituary of Margaret Topkin

Margaret Patricia Topkin passed away comfortably at home in Nanuet on June 6, 2021. Margie was born on September 4, 1933 to Helen Marie (née Hof) and Albert James Kalb. She was the third of four children, and was predeceased by her elder brothers Albert (1921-2001) and Kenneth (1931-1992). She is survived by one younger sister, Janet Pour, of Bensenville, Illinois.
Margie was the mother of 9 daughters from her marriage to George Topkin: Diane (John) Latuga of East Northport, NY; Patricia Locke of Tampa, FL; Deborah (Richard) Arietta of Blauvelt, NY; Helen Reich of West Nyack, NY; Karen (Bill) DeJesus of Congers, NY; Suzanne Topkin of Nyack, NY; Michele (Jeff) Tremberger of Pine Bush, NY; Donna (John) Milhard of Pomona, NY; and Marie (Anthony) Sikorsky-Pavia, also of Blauvelt. The two raised their daughters in Valley Cottage, NY where Margie lived for many years after.
Through these daughters, she was blessed with 19 loving grandchildren: Crissy (Joe) Leto; Amy Latuga; Janet Latuga; Jennifer (Antoine) Tinnion; Jason Locke; Jessica Locke; Justin Locke; Emily (Kevin) McLarnon; Ricky (Carla) Arietta; Joseph Arietta; Michael Arietta; Dana DeJesus; Anna DeJesus; Kimberly Tremberger; William Tremberger; Zachary Milhard; Allison Milhard; Briana Pavia; and Steven Sikorsky. She also had 4 great-grandchildren: Isabella, Sophie, and Zoe Tinnion; and Kayla Tremberger.
More than anything else, Margie valued spending time with her family and friends. Her sharp memory and penchant for storytelling made for many a great conversation, and her passion for travel brought her plenty of adventures. Margie’s favorite hobby was her crocheting. She was especially well regarded for her beautiful and unique baby blankets, which she not only made for loved ones but also donated to various charities. She very much loved to write poetry as well (a love she shared to the very end with her sister Janet); a few of her poems had even been published in local newspapers over the years.
Margie was loved and will be missed by many, but we take solace in knowing she is at peace among God’s many angels.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Monday, June 14 at St. Paul's church in Congers, followed by a burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx.
