James Thomas Joseph Luttati of West Nyack, New York and Hobe Sound, Florida, and devoted husband of 56 years to Irma Mirta Maria Luttati, who predeceased him on December 8, 2015, passed away on May 30, 2021.  Born May 23, 1932 in New York City, Jim, who was the first person to go to college in his family, was a proud graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas College.  An avid baseball fan and player, Jim was invited to try out for the New York Yankees on the eve of being called to serve in the Army during the Korean War.  After being honorably discharged, Jim went to work in New York City as an electrician in the shipyards.  Upon taking the Civil Service Exam, Jim then went on to join the New York City Police Department.  In his distinguished 32 year career with the NYPD, Jim rose to become Sergeant of Detectives (First Grade), Manhattan North Homicide.  Upon retiring from the NYPD, Jim loved playing softball on two teams near his second home in Hobe Sound, Florida, gardening, going to the beach, and attending each winter season a variety of theatrical and musical performances with his wife.  During his summers and autumns in West Nyack, Jim, who was a self-taught carpenter, woodworker, and mason kept busy with many home improvement projects including making furniture and building additions onto both homes.  Jim also enjoyed traveling throughout Europe with his wife and children. Jim is survived by his daughter Carol, an attorney and his son, David, a prime time producer for Fox cable news channel in NYC.  The wake will be on Friday June 4 from 2 ‑ 4pm and 7 ‑ 9pm at the Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home, Inc. in West Nyack. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Anthony's Shrine Church in Nanuet on Saturday June 5 at 10:00 am, followed by burial at St. Anthony's Cemetery.
