Obituary of Domenica Neilson
Domenica “Mickey” (Gugliara) Neilson, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 1, 2021. Domenica was born on July 30, 1931 in Aidone, Sicily and emigrated to the United States in 1946, but maintained strong roots to Italy. She was the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Concetta (Prinzi) Gugliara.
Domenica was predeceased by her loving husband, George Neilson, her brothers, Philip and Louis Gugliara, her sister, Phyllis Nocerino, and daughter, Linda Neilson. She was survived by her sons, Joseph and Edward Neilson, her daughters, Betty (Stanley) Paletta and Patricia (John) Lorusso, her grandchildren, Amanda (Bill Snyder) Tiedeken, Melissa (Geoffrey) Lindquist, Kara (Michael Gassaway) Tiedeken, Ashley Paletta, John Lorusso III and Nicolette Paletta, her great grandchildren, Caden Snyder and Luka Lindquist and her nieces and nephews.
Domenica was a wonderful wife, caring mother and devoted grandmother. Her life revolved around her family and nothing made her happier than spending quality time with them at her home. Anyone who visited her would leave with a smile on their face, a home-cooked meal and a memory to cherish forever. Known for her talents as a seamstress, her love for clothes and fashion, organizing trips for the Sons of Italy and her exceptional dancing and singing, Domenica will truly be missed by all who knew her and loved her.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Catharine's Church in Blauvelt, NY on Saturday, May 8th, at 11:30am. Burial to follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill, NY.
