Gerry was a math teacher and math Department Chair at Clarkstown North High School before moving to Clarkstown South the year it opened as an Assistant Principal. He was there for 12 years before moving back to Clarkstown North as an Assistant Principal for two years. In 1986 he became Principal of Clarkstown South for 12 years.  He loved the job as Principal as well as he enjoyed every student.Gerry was known for opening every day with “Good Morning all you Happy Vikings, today is day___ in the 6 day rotating cycle and the SAT word of the day is “EGRESS” followed by the definition of the word.  When he retired from Clarkstown he took a position as Principal of Walter Panas High School in Lakeland, NY for 2 years.

Following Gerry’s career in Education he served on the Rockland County Legislature for 12 years. Gerry believed in term limits and after three terms, he removed himself from the Legislature.

Gerry loved helping others and he believed that service to others was the reason we were put here on earth.  He was a member of Germonds Presbyterian Church for 42 years where he served as an elder, youth leader,Sundayschool teacher and confirmation leader.  He was a Rotarian for 30 years and spearheaded the West Nyack Memorial Day Parade, Holiday Tree Lighting and provided speakers and microphones for most Rotary functions.  He was a Cub Scout leader for many years and during his years as Assistant Principal and Principal he never missed presenting a plaque at every Eagle Scout Ceremony for a Clarkstown South student.

As a father Gerry was tough and demanding but as an adult he became your best friend.  He was opinionated but always willing to listen to your opinion and he respected you for your opinion.  He made friends with everyone he met and told them a joke if they would listen.

Gerry, you will be missed but you will live in our hearts forever.

Due to COVID restrictions, there will be a service for family only which will be recorded and placed on the Germonds Presbyterian website.

As a family, we have committed to holding a Memorial Service in Gerry’s memory at a later date. Hopefully this summer.

Donations can be made in memory of Gerry to Germonds Presbyterian Church.  He would be grateful if you reach out and help someone else today!
