Obituary of Joseph DeMatteo

Joseph DeMatteo, of Valley Cottage, NY- previously of South Blooming Grove, entered into eternal rest on Thursday February 4, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Wayne, NJ. He was 84 years old.

The son of John “The Duke” and Bridget (Rota) DeMatteo, he was born and raised in Bronx, NY.

Joseph (Joey), aka Joe Black, was truly a one of a kind man who enjoyed the simple things in life such as spending time with his wife, his family, his life long friends, his food shopping (at Shoprite), his cigars, his fishing time and watching the trotters on the screens at OTB. Joseph took a lot of pride in his career as a butcher and retired from UPS with “25 years of safe driving”. He loved to see his entire family together for a big meal. One of his favorite holidays was our traditional seven fish dinner on Christmas Eve. He loved to watch his family gather together around the tree to open presents. He was a hard-working man, the best advisor and someone that everyone could always count on. He will truly be missed and his family is heart broken but we take comfort in knowing that he is reunited with his soulmate Arlene (Gma).

Joseph is survived by his children and their spouses, Donna McGoldrick (Michael) of Washingtonville, John DeMatteo of Valley Cottage, Joseph DeMatteo of Charlotte NC, Nicholas DeMatteo (Kathleen) of Tuxedo Park, Jennifer Greenbush (Steven) of West Nyack and his grandchildren Christie Delfino (Nicholas), Gina DeMatteo, Angelo DeMatteo, Olivia DeMatteo, Matthew McGoldrick, Jake DeMatteo, Michael McGoldrick, Evan Greenbush, Elaina Greenbush, and Trevor Greenbush, who will fondly recall countless memories with him. Joseph was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Arlene DeMatteo, who entered into eternal rest in 2019 and his sister, Barbara Marciano.

Visitation will be Tuesday February 9 from 4pm-7pm at Joseph W Sorce Funeral Home, 728 W Nyack Road, West Nyack.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday February 10 at 10am at St. Anthony’s Church, 36 W Nyack Road, Nanuet.
