Obituary of Gloria Castelar
Gloria “Glorita” Castelar, 80, of Nanuet, NY, passed away on December 16, 2020, in Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY. Funeral service will be held at St. Anthony’s Church on January 6th at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Joseph J. Deponai of St. Anthony’s Church officiating. Visitation will be held at Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home, Inc. on January 5th from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home, Inc. will be handling the funeral arrangements. Gloria was born in Manizales, Colombia to Mercedes Vercerra and Antonio Gomez on October 3, 1940. She went to high school in Manizales. She went on to earn a degree in Fashion Design. She worked as a seamstress for Castelar Studios for 50 years. She married her husband of 60 years, Rafael Castelar, in 1960. They came to New York City in 1966 with their 6-month-old babygirl, Monica. They would come to have four more children and adopted another as their own. She enjoyed singing, dancing, gardening, she was a great story-teller, she was a worldly woman, she enjoyed life and lived in the moment. She was involved in the Lions Club, the Colombian Civic Center, & the Colombian Cultural Center. Gloria Castelar is survived by her husband, Rafael Castelar of Nanuet, NY. She is survived by her children, Monica (Gilbert Sr.), John (Julissa), Christabella (Robert Sr.), Jennifer (Harry III), Steve Sr. (Migdalia), and Heather (Victor). She is survived by her grandchildren, Steven, Barbara (Oscar), Kaiulani, Steve Jr., Katelyn (Marcel), Victoria, Gilbert Jr. (Haley), Zamara, Robert Jr., Gabriel, Stefanie, Sophia, Brianna, Adrian, and Maria. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, John, Elizabeth, Iris, and Leilani. She is finally survived by her three youngest siblings, Betty (Carlos), Bando (Cecilia), and Azucena, and her nieces and nephews that loved her like a mother. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association.
