Obituary of Giroloma Tirro
Giroloma Tirro passed away on December 8, 2020. She was “Jerry” to those close to her, and loved reading, trips to Wildwood, and spending time with her beloved family, telling countless stories about growing up in the Great Depression. She lived all her 97 years with honesty, integrity, character and sass. She was a bright light in this world, and will be greatly missed by all.
Jerry was born in Brooklyn on June 14, 1923, the eldest child of Carmen and Mary Scattereggia. She married Joseph Tirro on June 7, 1942, and moved to Mount Vernon to live with his family while Joseph served his country in the Pacific theater during World War II. She and Joseph raised their son surrounded by extended family. She worked in retail for many years, retiring in 1980. She spent 63 happy years with Joseph, until his death in 2005. She is survived by her son Peter (Ivonne); her sister, Mrs. Judy Squeglia (Nick); two grandchildren, Christopher Tirro (Stacey) and Melissa McDonald (Matthew); and four beloved great-grandchildren: Julia, Daniel, Sophia and Sarah. She also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews and other family members, and we are all better for having known and loved her.
Visitation will take place Friday December 11th from 9 am to 11 am. Burial to immediatly follow at Beachwood Cemetery in New Rochelle.
