Obituary of Nancy J. Torres Spagna
Nancy Torres-Spagna passed peacefully on Friday, October 23rd after a courageous battle against cancer. She shared 58 years of ceaseless energy and joy with everybody that she knew and loved. To know Nancy was to love Nancy and wherever she went, she would inevitably befriend somebody new. She was a nurturing caregiver and could always find a way to put a smile on your face. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Joseph Sorce Funeral Home in West Nyack from 4-7 PM. Nancy was born on April 27, 1962 in Queens, NY where she lived until the age of 7. In 1969, her family moved to Nanuet, NY where she would go on to spend the rest of her life. She attended Nanuet High School and graduated in 1980. It was in high school where she met Mike Spagna through mutual friends, who she would go on to marry on November 25th, 1995. She was a graduate of Rockland Community College and she also attended F.I.T. Nancy held many different occupations throughout the years. Her early career was based in the fashion industry and included Macys, Warehouse, and B Altmans. Her career path eventually took her to AT&T in Paramus, NJ where she held several positions including Fleet Administrator and IT Project Manager. It was in 2018 when she found her most gratifying role when she became a teacher’s assistant for special needs children at Bosces in West Nyack where she nurtured and loved all of “her kids”. Nancy had many passions and loves in life and they always involved family and friends. She was an avid sports fan and loved hockey, football, and baseball. Her biggest sports love was the NY Rangers and she spent many years as a season ticket holder. She was also a fan of the Jets, Giants and Mets and weathered the myriad of highs and lows these teams brought through the years. She also was passionate about traveling, art, music and loved the beach. Her travels took her to locations such as Paris, Mexico, Columbia and Puerto Rico. If there was a band she knew playing in the tri-state area you could be sure Nancy would be there. It was in 2011 that Mike gave her the birthday gift of what would eventually be known as her “Happy Place” in Long Beach Island. Not even Hurricane Sandy could deter this location from becoming the focal point of her summers and she welcomed numerous visitors to stay with her and the family through the years. Nancy is survived by her beloved husband Mike, their three children, Danielle, Allie, and Ian and granddaughter Aria. She leaves her loving father Alfredo, step-mother Stella, mother Miriam, motherin-law Joan and is predeceased by her father-in-law Bobby. She also leaves her younger sister Michelle, brother-in-law Brian, nieces Ashley and Jillian, sister-in-law Joann, nephews Jay and Adam, her Aunt Yogi, Uncle Bill and Aunt Clara Lu, cousins Bonnie and Erick, and a countless host of family and friends.
