Obituary of Mariamma Varghese
Mrs. Mariamma Varghese was born on 3 June 1945 to late Mrs. Annamma Philipose and late Mr. Geevarghese Philipose of Thoppil House, Cheppad, Karthigapally, Kerala, India. She studied nursing in Bombay Hospital and worked in Bombay Hospital and Atomic Energy Hospital in Bombay.In 1976 she migrated to USA and worked in Bronx as a registered nurse. In 2007 she retired from active duty after a 17 year career from Rockland Psychiatric center.
In 1975 she was married to Mr. Varghese P. Varghese of Palamparampil, Anickadu, Mallappally at his home parish St. John’s CSI Church, Neelampara. They were active members of CSI Malayalam Congregation of Greater New York until they moved Rockland in 1985 and became members of CSI Christs Church in Valley Cottage, Rockland.
She is survived by her husband Mr. Varghese P. Varghese of Nanuet and her daughters Jamilla Philips and Rachel Williams, her son-in-law Rexy Philips, her four grandchildren Arya, Elijah, Isaiah, and Noah. She is also survived by her brother Mr. T.P. Cheriyan (Kerala) and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Her other siblings, Mrs. Saramma Varghese, Mr. T. P. Geevarghese, Mrs. Lillykutty Abraham, Mrs. Gracy Varghese, and Mrs. Achamma Thomas went to glory ahead of her.
She was a cheerful woman who helped others when she could, but was confined to home for the last several years. She faced her pain and suffering with grace and had an unwavering faith in God. She was a very active member of the All Saints CSI Church and participated in all church activities. She will be missed by all who loved and known her.
