Obituary of Albert G. Schildwachter

Albert G Schildwachter, 85, was welcomed into Heaven on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. Albert was born on October 19, 1934 to Albert & Mary Schildwachter. Al had a beautiful childhood, growing up on E 237 St in the Bronx, with his four siblings and many Woodlawn friends.

He attended Cardinal Hayes High School and graduated from Iona College. He served in the 25th infantry in the US Army and was luckily stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii.

Al was the storyteller, always sharing wonderful memories of friends and family, fishing and hunting. His favorite story was the one he would often tell, of the day he first met Rita, his beloved wife of 58 years. Marrying her was the best decision he ever made he would tell others. What a true loving and attentive husband he was, right up until the end. Their marriage was inspiring to witness. As a true giver, Al devoted his career to helping others as a case worker for Rockland County Department of Health for over 30 years. Al raised his 4 children proudly at his home in West Nyack, NY. He was an active member of St Anthony's Parish and West Nyack Little League.

Al didn't have a mean bone in his body and always looked for the good in people. He was a man of faith and we know he is being welcomed by all the angels.

Al enjoyed making his birdhouses, gardening, attending his grandkids activities, reading, going to church and hunting. Of all his titles, his favorite was Papa. He adored his grandkids and was very present in their lives. Al and Rita spent the last years of their lives, surrounded by the joy of their family in Cornwall, NY. Al is survived by his wife Rita, children, Al, Chris, Cathy Cutrone, Sue Cibirka, son-in-laws George Cutrone, Michael Cibirka , daughter-in-laws Judy and Janet Schildwachter, SukHee & John Lopez; his siblings Steve &Anne Elizabeth, Billy & Joan, Marty & Sue, his sister Maryanne Sgroi and Sister-in-law Eileen Heagy, Grandchildren, Krista, Emma, Ryan, George, Albert, Julia, Olivia, Danny & Christian.

Visitation will be held For both Albert and Rita on Sunday June 6, 2021 from 4 - 7 pm at the Joseph W. Sorce FH, Inc. 728 West Nyack Rd. West Nyack, NY 10994.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday June 7, 2021 at 11:30am in St. Anthony's Parish Church with interment in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
