Obituary of Mary W. Sforzo
Mary W. Sforzo, 93, passed away on September 28, 2019. She was born in Yonkers, New York, the daughter of John and Mildred Campanaro. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, Stephen, of 64 years. She is survived by her three daughters, Patricia Sforzo, Diane Petraglia and husband Liberato, and Rosemary Worum and husband Viggo. She will be greatly missed by her family and cherished grandchildren Anthony and wife Andrea, Nicole and husband Leonardo, Vincent and his wife Alison, Kristina and husband Christopher, Kimberli and her husband Wesley, and Johan; great grandchildren, Gianna, Carmela, Cecilia, Adriana, Gianluca, Angelo, Charlotte, Dominic and Cassidy; and her nephews, nieces and friends. She is also predeceased by her brother, Frank Campanaro and sister, Rachel Benvenuto.
Mary retired in 1982 from Wilsonart where she did clerical work. Prior to this, she worked as a cook for the Clarkstown Central School District. After retiring to Florida with her husband she continued to work part time at the Ocean Center, the Daytona International Speedway and local elections. She also volunteered at the Halifax Health Medical Center Gift Shop in Daytona Beach.
Mary enjoyed knitting and crocheting and many years of retirement with her husband. Together they were always traveling with family and friends, going on cruises and fishing adventures. They also enjoyed bowling, crabbing, claming, playing cards, golfing and bingo. Mary especially loved trips to Disney World.
A Memorial Mass will take place at 11:15 am on Saturday, November 2, at St. Paul’s Church in Congers, NY; followed by burial at Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery, New Hempstead, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mary Sforzo to the Children's Tumor Foundation, (ctf.org).
