Obituary of Eugene Patrick Murphy

Eugene was born on February 6, 1936 in NYC to Michael and Mary Murphy.  He had 3 siblings Maureen, Danny and Michael. He attended St Barnabus in the Bronx and Iona Prep in New Rochelle. He earned a BS in Criminal Justice and Police Science from John Jay College and had a master's degree from Long Island University.  He was married to Carol in 1964 and in 1973 they moved to New City, NY to raise their family.

He was appointed to the New York City Police Department in November 1961. His first assignment was at the 30th PCT in Harlem.  He was promoted to Sergeant in 1969, Lieutenant in 1973 and Captain in 1984. He retired out of Bronx Detectives after 39 years of dedicated service.

Following retirement he enjoyed keeping fit at the YMCA, jogging around Rockland Lake, readiing, and was a member of the Civil War Roundtable,  Mostly he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and his second home in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ.

He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather. Eugene was preceded in death by his daughter Susan C. Coyle, sister Maureen Ryan, Brothers Michael and Danny Murphy. He is survived by his wife Carol, daughter Jean-Marie Abujawdeh and son Thomas and his grandchildren Alexa Murphy, Liam Abujawdeh, Andrew Abujawdeh, Michaela Murphy, Kirstin Coyle, Aidan Coyle and Patrick Murphy.

Visitation will take place on Friday, March 1st from 4pm to 8pm at the Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home, Inc. 728 West Nyack Road, West Nyack, New York 10994 (845)358-4433 

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, March 2nd at 10:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Parrott Road, West Nyack, New York 10994.

Burial to Immediatly follow at Gethsemene Cemetery,  Rockland Lake, Congers, New York 10920

In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his name to United Hospice of Rockland,
