Obituary of Richard S. Peterson

On Monday, February 25th, Richard “Dick” Peterson passed away at the age of 83. He was surrounded by his loving family when he passed.  Richard was born on April 26th, 1935 in Central Nyack to Harold and Minnie (Smith) Peterson. He served his country in the Korean War as a member of the Military Police.  Upon his return, he joined the Orangetown Police Department and served 25 years, retiring as a Lieutenant. The highlight of his life, though, was when he married Elsie Wamsley in 1959.  Richard was a loving husband and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Peterson. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elsie, his two daughters, Denise (Pablo) Ramos and Susan (John) DeFelice, his four grandchildren, Natasha Swanson, Alexsis Ramos de Moore, Liana DeFelice and Nicholas DeFelice, and his three great-granddaughters, Margot, Madison and Riley and his sister, Peggy Zak of Virginia. 

Visitation will take place on Thursday,February 28th from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at the Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home, Inc. 728 West Nyack Road, West Nyack, NY 10994 (845) 358-4433 www.sorcefuneralhome.com

A Funeral Service will take place Friday, March 1st at 10am at the Funeral Home.

Burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery 140 North Highland Ave. Nyack, NY 10960.
