Obituary of Marilyn Marshall

Marilyn Joy Marshall

Marilyn Joy Marshall was born to Lydia and Leon Marshall on November 19, 1944 in Miami Beach, Florida. The family soon returned to the New York metropolitan area and landed in Fort Lee, NJ where Marilyn attended Our Lady of Fatima school. When the family moved to New City, NY some years later, Marilyn attended and graduated from Saint Anthony’s School in Nanuet.

Marilyn was among the first students to attend Albertus Magnus high school when it first opened, but transferred to Clarkstown North in her junior year to pursue art and music. She played the glockenspiel in the school band and pursued her art, completing four years of art classes in two years. Upon graduation, she was excepted into Parsons School of Design in New York City where she graduated with a degree in fashion illustration.

Her fashion illustration career took her from Simplicity Patterns in New York City to various advertising agencies, textile design firms, and stationary design companies. Quite a talented mural painter, she thrilled private clients with beautifully designed and intricate mural art in their homes.

One of her favorite things was to paint impromptu portraits of the passers by at the Nanuet Mall perfect for framing. Later in life, she enjoyed designing and making jewelry.

A talented musician and songwriter she wrote original material, played the piano and sang in sweet tones to the delight of many.

Marilyn is survived by her sister Linda Marshall-Smith and brother-in-law Billy J. Smith of Redondo Beach, California, and a myriad of cousins and dear friends throughout the tri-state NY area. Her light and joy will be greatly missed by everyone. May she rest in peace.
