Obituary of John Titus

It is with great sadness that the family of John ( Jack) Titus announce his passing on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at the age of 91. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona Dec 2,1926 and lived for his first 12 years in Mexico City as his dad was working starting an airline which eventually became part of Pan American Airlines. He then moved to Brownsville, Tx and later to Great Neck, NY for his last years of high school then joining the Navy in 1944. Then returning after the War to attend college and then join the Air Force to get his pilots wings. Returning to New York in 1954 he then joined Pan American Airlines and had the pleasure of flying with his dad in 1955 the event was documented in Time Magazine August 1955. He retired from Pan American in 1984 as a Captain and Check Pilot. He was married to Connie Titus in 1947. He will be remembered by his children, Robert Titus (Donna), and Christine (Alan), his grandchildren, Christie (James), Cathleen (Michael), Matthew and John. He will also be remembered by his great grandchildren, Claire, Avery and Keira.

He graduated from Adelphi University with a B.S degree.. He served in the Navy, 1944-1946, the Air Force, 1950-1961 and the Army 1961-1965. He served in WW II, and Korea.

He was a parishioner of Sts. Philip and James, NY, and St. Thomas, TX. He served his church as a lector, usher and was a prayer group member. He also worked for four church foodbanks, the Tarrant County Food Bank and meals on wheels. He was a member of the Elks, and the Civil Air Patrol. He was also a 4th degree Knight of Columbus.

His hobbies were golf, flying small airplanes and volunteering where needed.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:30 am on Friday, June 29 at St. Anthony's Church, 36 West Nyack Rd., Nanuet, NY. Burial will immediately follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
