Obituary of Edward Borrazzo

Edward Joseph Borrazzo

NANUET – Edward Borrazzo, 86, of Nanuet, NY died of sudden cardiac arrest on the evening of January 22nd, two weeks shy of his 87th birthday.  Ed was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to the many people who knew him.  His gentle demeanor and kind heart drew people to him.

Edward Joseph Borrazzo was born on February 9, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York, of parents Nunzio (John) and Celeste (Kay) Borrazzo and spent the first 11 years of his life in the Bensonhurst neighborhood before moving with his parents to Fordham in the Bronx.  He graduated from Dewitt Clinton public high school in 1948 and, after studying engineering for a year and then working for city government, joined the navy in 1951 and served during the Korean War for four years on the U.S.S. Vulcan.

After leaving the navy, he worked and attended night school, joining the defense contractor Loral Electronics Systems in 1960 and graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Pace University in 1961.  He spent his professional career with Loral Corporation, retiring as President of Loral International in 1994.   Under his leadership, in 1986 Loral International was awarded the New York Governor’s Award for Achievement in Export.

Ed's love of family was the focal point of his life.  Ed met his wife, Josephine (“Jo”), in the summer of 1955, married in June 1956, and they enjoyed 61 years of love-filled marriage blessed with three children.  He and Jo moved to Nanuet, NY in 1961 to the house in which they were still living at the time of his death.  He was a devoted parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church for over 56 years.

Ed loved traveling (and planning travel) for both work and pleasure, domestically for much of his life and then internationally starting with a trip to Italy in 1980.  He traveled extensively to Europe and the U.K., Turkey, the Middle East, and China.  But being a New Yorker remained central to his identity, including being a die-hard New York Yankees fan.

He is survived by Jo; their children and spouses (John Borrazzo and his wife Carol Piwowarski of Washington DC; Christine McCoy and her husband Christopher of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts; and Edward Borrazzo and his wife Kathleen of South Burlington, Vermont); eight grandchildren (Stephanie, Katie, Jennifer, Juliana, Matthew, Becky, Anna, and Emily); his sister Marie Dargue, and many nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives he touched. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his sister Laurette Gresler.

Visiting hours are Friday January 26, 2-4 pm and 6:30-9 pm at Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home, Inc.  728 West Nyack Road, West Nyack, NY (845) 358-4433 www.sorcefuneralhome.com.  A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, January 27, 10:00 am at St. Anthony's Church in Nanuet, NY.   In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association in Ed’s honor.
